Welcome to Tracee Metcalfe

Tracee and Mama Sherpa at Kangchenjunga Summit 2022

I have summited 9 out of the 14 peaks above 8000 meters. My journey, fueled by passion and determination, aims not only to climb these mountains but also to support meaningful causes along the way. As I continue this adventure in 2024, I am committed to raising funds for charities and partnering with sponsors who resonate with my mission.

Growing up in Southern California, I never imagined that I would one day stand atop the world’s highest mountains. This dream seemed confined to the pages of books, far from my sea-level beginnings. After high school, I ventured to Colorado, where I embraced the rugged beauty and challenges of the mountains. Working as a pizza delivery driver and living modestly, I found my life becoming deeply entwined with the mountains.

In the mountains, I learned that limits are meant to be pushed. I grew up hearing “girls don’t surf”; in California and often felt sidelined in athletics. However, the mountains taught me a powerful lesson: obstacles are temporary, and adversity is essential for growth. My mountaineering journey started in Colorado, known for its majestic 14,000 ft. peaks, quickly grew to exploring glaciers in Peru and Alaska. During this time, I also discovered my calling to help others as a Physician.

As a physician with a growing passion for mountaineering, I had the honor of working with the National Park Service on Denali in Alaska for 2 seasons. There, I provided medical assistance and participated in rescue operations. While working on Denali I also had the opportunity to summit it in 2012.

My journey took another exciting turn when I was selected to be an expedition doctor on Manaslu in Nepal. I also worked as an expedition doctor on Everest, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. The deeply spiritual and growth inspiring experiences with the incredible Sherpas, rich cultures, and the hard charging clients were transformative for me.

Now, I stand on the brink of an exciting achievement: completing the 14 peaks above 8000 meters. Having already summited Annapurna, K2, and Nanga Parbat which are considered the most dangerous and challenging of the 8000-meter peaks as well as six other 8,000-meter peaks, only five remain: Shishapangma, Lhotse, G1, G2, and Broad Peak. In partnership with sponsors and supporters, I am committed to finishing this quest and supporting Ascend Athletics, an organization empowering women through mountaineering-based leadership training and community service.

I warmly invite you to join me on this thrilling and purposeful journey as I strive to summit the final five 8000-meter peaks. Together, we can reach new heights and make a meaningful impact.
